I have been reading a lot of good stuff about RunKeeper but since I have been using my Garmin ForeRunner 305, I haven’t given it a shot. Until today that is. I don’t know why, but I decided to give RunKeeper Light iPhone app a try on todays run and it was ok. Got online when I got home to read some more about the service and was blown away when I found the killer feature: create a route at home and you are able to see the route on the phone along with a marker telling you where you are. Since I have been creating routes on Google Maps (and gotten lost a couple of times as well but saved by the Google Maps app) for a while this is an absolutely awesome feature. So I went ahead and installed the RunKeeper Pro iPhone App ($10) and also paid for a Elite membership ($19.99) at the site.
Besides that, there is the possibility to create workouts at home and then having a voice telling you when to change pace or when you are not following the pace. Voice feedback at a set interval (or by tapping the display), the ability for friends at home to track your run as you run, fitness reports, a lot of statistics and a beautiful site and app makes me think that my ForeRunner wont come out of the drawer for a long long time. Can’t wait until RunKeeper makes it possible to upload activities created by Garmin devices so I can upload my history.
Now, all I have to do is find a water proof arm band for my spanking new iPhone 4 (thank you First Flight) and set up a nice play list in Spotify and I am all set for new records and completing the Stockholm Marathon 2011 in style. Oh, and I really need a pair of these too btw… heel to toe ratio of 13/9. But they wont arrive to Sweden until 2011 it seems, so it will have to be an order from the US.
